Homelessness in Chicago affects thousands of women, children, and men. Cornerstone Community Outreach is one of the largest shelters in the city serving women, children, and intact (two-parent) families.
Your fund-raising efforts through TEAM CCO will directly contribute to emergency and long-term shelter, food, job training, substance abuse counseling, and many, many more services to the poorest and most needy. CCO's Hannah's House Interim Housing, located at 4628 North Clifton Avenue, provides homeless families with up to 120 days of shelter and services.
The shelter serves not only single mothers with their children, but also single fathers with their children, intact families, and families with teenage boys.
The shelter provides housing, nutritious meals, daycare, clothing, group and individual counseling, individualized case management, nursing, as-needed mental health assessments, life-skills training, substance abuse counseling, money management, job assessment, job readiness, job referral, computer training classes, housing relocation assistance, and after-school programs for the kids. (Over 350 are served annually.)
Naomi's Place - Single Womens Overnight Shelter located at 4615 North Clifton Avenue, accommodates approximately 100 homeless women every evening.
The women are served a nutritious evening meal, offered showers, given a safe place to sleep, and, in the morning, given breakfast. This program operates year round.
CCO's Brothas & Sistahs United offers a multifaceted youth program to inner city kids.
Friendly Towers Supportive Senior Housing offers apartments, support, and friendship to poorer elderly members of the Chicago community. (Read the below senior's story here.)
